We joined Grandma and Grandpa Eppich at their ward Easter Candy Hunt--which wasn't really a hunt, more like a race where the fastest hands get lots of goods.
We spent the rest of the day with the family. Dan had a basketball game and Chari was doing homework, so while the kids were busy playing, Mike and I competed in a friendly game of golf ball toss, (I don't know what the appropriate name for the game is so we will leave it at that), where we didn't keep score but had fun being outside--it was a bit cool for my preferences but a beautiful sunny day.
Cassy and Brayden arrived and we had fun coloring eggs which were then hid in the backyard for the kids to find.
Thanks for the picture Cassy :)
Kaylee's Easter lesson learned was a bit different than the normal resurrection story (although I hope that she picked up on that one as well). At the candy hunt, my dad realized that a few of the kids who had come late didn't get any candy so he took a handful out of Kaylee and Parker's baskets and threw it into the grass for the kids to have. He explained this to Kaylee and Parker and there was no other mention of the event. Then. . . we were reading from the Book of
Mormon a few nights ago when we read Alma 4:13 . . .
"...succoring those who stood in need of their succor, such as imparting
their substance to the poor and the needy, feeding the hungry, and suffering
all manner of afflictions, for Christ’s sake, who should come according to
the spirit of prophecy; "
We were explaining to the kids what it meant to 'impart of their substance" and Kaylee said something to the effect as "like Grandpa did with the Easter candy by sharing with those kids." I smiled and was grateful for the good example of a kind grandpa.
The best lessons are sometimes learned when we are not even meaning to teach. Thank goodness for the good examples my kids have to look to to learn. I have a renewed desire to be a good example always.
